At a guess I'd say it's to give you the sensation of weightlessness. The thing in front probably moves you around like with a little electric outboard. The helmet is probably a viewing thingo for something like virtual reality.
Why would you do that?.
Maybe for stress relief. Can't see it for mobility therapy for accident victims. Just don't think they'd do it that way.
My guess is for stress relief to give the sensation of floating in space....or such.
